Did you know? Some STDs can be spread with just skin-to-skin contact. These include syphilis, herpes and HPV.

Never assume you’re being tested during your annual exam. Speak up and ask for STD testing.

STD Testing and Prevention

Respect the relationship by protecting your health.

When to get tested:
Once a year at a minimum and additionally if you’ve had unprotected sex or you/your partner have had sex with other people. Remember, many STDs are symptomless, and you can often carry the infection without showing signs of the disease. It’s important to tell your provider the exact type of sex you’ve had (oral, anal, vaginal) in order to determine which tests are needed.

How to lower your risks:
Limit number of sexual partners, use male and/or female condoms, get tested with your partner before having sex, avoid intercourse while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and consider protecting yourself with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B (HBV) vaccinations.
